The condition of English in multilingual Afghanistan, is a report on the current state of English use and competence across Afghanistan. The report is a high-quality example of language policy work, based on data collected throughout the country.
As well as providing real insight into the use and prevalence of English in Afghanistan, the report also exemplifies why it is important for fieldwork to extend to remote places to achieve a comprehensive, representative and ethically sound set of recommendations for language in education policy.
The findings of the research have considerable implications for language policy, not only in Afghanistan, but also in other parts of the world, where several languages are used, some of which are spoken by large proportions of the population and others by minority communities.
