Arts in Afghanistan

Arts and culture, like other sectors of Afghan life, have been severely damaged by decades of war. The British Council, as a cultural relations advocate, has always been committed to helping revive and promote Afghan culture, through capacity building in the cultural sectors and the creative economy and through the development of the next generation of Afghan cultural leaders and practitioners.

We have expanded our arts programmes to reinforce the cultural, as well as the socioeconomic, development of the new Afghanistan and to build trust and positive images between the peoples of Afghanistan and Britain. Our arts and culture programmes work to three themes: leadership and skills for the arts and creative sector, partnership projects (EUNIC), and restoring voice, cultural identity and recognition.
